Official launching of Kwara State Association of Nigeria, North America, Inc.
August 31 - September 1, 2001, Washington DC, USA


wara State is located in the Central part of Nigeria. Kwara State is among the 36 States in Nigeria, located in the Middle Belt, with very strong cultural and historical ties with the South, of a Northern political inclination, and the gateway between Southern and Northern Nigeria. Kwara State is blessed with yet untapped natural and intellectual resources, and a great number of Natural Historical and International tourist Centers. The State capital is Ilorin.

Kwara State Association, North America, KSANG was formed for the purpose of bringing citizens of Kwara State in the Diaspora together for the services of the state. As we move forward in stride, other Chapters such as those from New York, California, Tennessee, North and South Carolina, Minnesota, Illinois, Philadelphia, Oklahoma, Florida, Missouri are looking forward to getting on board with Washington, D.C., Georgia - Atlanta, Texas - Houston.

The goals, objectives and mission of KSANG are clearly established in its constitution which is readily available to interested persons. It will suffice to provide a brief summary of the goals and objectives of the association as: 1) to promote dialogue, understanding, and cooperation for social, economic, and political development that furthers the well-being of all its members, of Nigeria, and of its host communities; 2) to encourage, support, and facilitate sense of community among individuals and organizations committed to peace, social justice and sustainable development in Nigeria and elsewhere in the world; 3) to provide opportunities to meaningfully contribute to the promotion of rule of law, respect of human dignity, realization of the economic and social growth potentials of Kwara State of Nigeria, entrenchment of accountability and transparency in governance, promotion of cultural awareness and greater understanding of Nigerians overseas, promotion of healthy relationship between Nigerians and peoples of other nations; and 4) to provide, alone or jointly with any other institution or groups or individuals, general advisory services or assistance to the Kwara State Government of Nigeria or local government authority in Kwara State or any public institution in Kwara State in respect to matters pertaining to good governance including, but not limited to matters listed under "Fundamental Objectives and Directive Principles of State Policy" in the Nigerian Constitution.

KSANG has set forth a two-day event as part of the launching program. The launching will also feature a Business Forum on Friday, August 31. Such business forum is designed to highlight business opportunities in Nigeria in the areas of telecommunications, Information Technology, manufacturing, Agriculture and Agro Allied, Banking, Hotels and Tourism, Export productions among others. September 1, 2001 features a symposium where panelist would discussion issues that affect Kwara State and Kwarans in Diaspora. Gala night is scheduled for 7:00 PM of September 1, 2001.

We are expecting the following distinguished Kwarans at the launching: His Excellency, Mohammed Lawal, Kwara State Governor and some of his Commissioners; Dr. Olusola Saraki, Turaki of Ilorin; General Abdulkadir Adisa, (rtd.), former Minister for Communications; Chief Samuel Adedoyin, the doyen industry in Nigeria, Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, Doyin Group of Companies; Professor Ibrahim Gambari, Under Secretary General, Special Adviser on Africa, United Nations Organization, New York, and many distinguished public and private Kwarans at home and abroad.
