A morning with kidnappers in Aba, Nigeria (Concluded)
TEMPLE C. UBOCHI, Bonn, Germany (Nigeriaworld) - The point is that what Orji Uzo Kalu, T. A. Orji and his son, Chinedu Orji, sowed in Abia State (kidnapping) hasn’t been “scorched” completely despite the military presence there. The Army is patrolling inside the towns and along the highways, but, kidnappers are still operating on the fringes, marauding in the villages. This column must commend the military for doing its best in bringing the kidnapping incidents down, but, more needs to be done as yours truly was a victim few weeks ago. more >>

Will the true Nigerians stand up and be counted at the time of her greatest need?
E O EKE, (Nigeriaworld) - Since the beginning of 2012, the situation in Nigeria has worsened and unless drastic action is taken by the government to address the problems tearing Nigeria apart, those of us who believe in Nigeria and wish it to endure, will be fighting a losing battle. As the security situation in northern Nigeria worsens, some Nigerian leaders, whose actions and inactions contributed to this mess, have retreated to their ethnic enclaves to plot for the demise of Nigeria. Some of them would like Nigeria to fall apart so that no one would hold them accountable for looting Nigeria. more >>

True Federalism: Can it be a panacea for Nigeria’s political travail?
AUGUSTINE C. OHANWE, (Nigeriaworld) - When we reduce all the concerns expressed by prominent Nigerians, and the solutions they have advanced, one would remember that in the Aburi Accord, the late Dim Ojukwu tabled before his opponent that true Federalism could save Nigeria from sliding into the abyss. The political structure was accepted but later turn down after the spin doctors of that time gave it a thumb down. Had the system been adapted at that time, perhaps, what we are witnessing today could have been kept at bay.. more >>

Politicization of religion and the origins of fundamentalisms in Nigeria (Part 2 of 3)
S. 'JIDE KOMOLAFE, (Nigeriaworld) - Although the military government may have orchestrated the founding of CAN, its life and activities have been a double irony. This is because CAN gradually became estranged from the founding motive in the government's invitation to participate in the discussions on 'National Pledge.' Instead, it launched itself fully into a confrontation with what was perceived as a systematic Islamization of Nigeria through the Muslims' constant efforts to implement Sharia law as the system of governance for all of Nigeria. It is fair to say, then, that the Muslim agenda, more than any other single factor, has provided legitimacy for the continued existence of CAN and explains its orientation to political activism and religious ecumenism. more >>

There are NO GOOD Nigerians, but serial hypocritical Nigerians
AKIN AWOFOLAJU, New York, NY, USA (Nigeriaworld) - And Just Who Are the Nigerians? It was a question that was never too far from the surface details of the reports and commentaries from foreign pundits. Just who are these Nigerians? The presupposition behind this was that even fraudulence requires some subterfuge, some competence, some finesse besides, megalomaniac belligerence which, by any standards in the world, was so inept, chaotic and open call for special understanding of “NIGERIANS” identity. more >>
